Linda “Winnie” Louise (Drumheller) Arey, 82, of Staunton, passed away on Saturday, November 16, 2024 at Augusta Health surrounded by her family.
She was born on September 25, 1942 in Waynesboro, a daughter of the late James Newton and Janie Louise (Lawhorne) Drumheller.
Linda grew up in Barren Ridge, where her parents operated the Barren Ridge Grocery. She was a 1961 graduate of Wilson Memorial High School; a homemaker and later attended Blue Ridge Community College, receiving a certificate as a Medical Office Assistant. She worked as a Night Auditor at a number of local hotels.
Survivors include a son, Gregory Scott Arey (Marissa) of Wilmington, NC; a daughter, Greta Linette Arey of Staunton; two grandchildren, who knew her as “Ganny”, Gabriella and Daniel Arey; a sister Nancy Howdyshell (Donnie) of Churchville; a niece, Teresa Howdyshell; three nephews, Dustin Howdyshell (Marleen), Bradley Howdyshell (Yvonne), and Paul Arey (Teresa); a great-nephew, Josh Howdyshell (Stephanie); a great-niece, Jessa Howdyshell; and a number of aunts, uncles, and cousins.
But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope. For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him. I Thessalonians 4:13-14
A graveside service will be conducted at 2:30 PM on Friday, November 22, 2024 at Shenandoah Baptist Church Cemetery in Verona by Pastor Timmy Woodson.
There will be no public viewing or visitation.
