Margaret Brooks (Fruth) Burns, 79, of Lake Monticello, passed away peacefully at her home on Monday, February 2, 2026.
Peg was born on May 19, 1946, in Fostoria, Ohio, to the late C. Richard and Weldon Clara (Brooks) Fruth. She spent much of her life in Ohio, where she devoted decades of her career to serving families in the foster care system. Her work reflected who she was at her core—compassionate, patient, and deeply committed to helping others, especially children.
Above all else, Peg was a loving wife, mom, and grandmother. She treasured time with her family and took great joy in her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. After moving to Lake Monticello, she became an active and friendly presence in the community, always ready with a smile, a conversation, or a helping hand. She had a special place in her heart for animals, particularly dogs.
She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Roger Allen Burns; her daughters, Paige Burns Mattson and Melissa Grace Burns Johnson; her son, Scott Richard Burns; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and her sister, Nancy Fruth Alford.
Services will be private.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Peg’s honor may be made to Green Dogs Unleashed, an organization close to her heart.
Arrangements are being handled by Thacker Brothers Lake Monticello Funeral Home.
