Frances Marie Combs Lane, born on April 6, 1928, in Fluvanna County, VA, died January 10, 2024, in Chesterfield County.
She was the daughter of the late Collie and Ethel Combs. Pre-deceased by her husband, Arthur Lee Lane, Jr and her brothers, Carl L Combs, and Donald Ray Combs.
She is survived by her sister, Pauline Engberg, her son, Richard Scott Lane (Ann), granddaughter, Jennifer Michelle Lane McGee (Brian) and 2 great grandsons, Oliver and Lucas, her daughter, Donna Marie Lane Smith, grandson, Brandon Thomas Smith, several nieces, nephews, and numerous cousins.
She graduated in 1945 from Scottsville High School as Valedictorian of her class. She attended Jefferson School of Commerce in Charlottesville. She worked at the National Bank and Trust Co., The Daily Progress and Virginia Tech Admissions Office while her husband was studying to earn his under-graduate degree. She and her husband lived in many places during his career as City Manager and she was always involved in many volunteer activities such as P.T.A., School Room Mother, helping in School and Public Libraries, and as a Girl Scout Leader. She was very active in Civic organizations, being on the Red Cross Board of Directors in Radford and a member of the Radford Woman’s Club, Hopewell Woman’s Club and Buckingham Woman’s Club. She served as Chairman of the Board of Elections while residing in Buckingham County. She was a Docent at the Scottsville Museum. She was a lifelong Methodist and member of Mount Zion United Methodist Church being active in many church activities. She was an artist and loved the outdoors, playing golf, feeding the birds, and just enjoying nature.
She lived at The Pearl at Watkins Center, surrounded by family and people who cared deeply for her.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 18, 2024 at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, 2620 Mt. Zion Church Road, Esmont, VA 22937 with Rev. Laura Stratton officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
