Marilyn Teresa (Ownby) Pratt

It is with great sadness that the family of Marilyn Teresa (Ownby) Pratt announces her passing. She passed away peacefully in her home in Sarasota on August 19, 2025. She was 77.

Born on June 26, 1948, in Charlottesville, Virginia, Marilyn was the daughter of the late Norman Glenn Ownby and Janice Reid (Turner) Ownby. She dedicated many years of her professional life to working in the legal sector in Alexandria, Virginia. In addition to her career, Marilyn was deeply committed to her volunteer work, serving for the Florida Guardian ad Litem Program.

Marilyn is survived by her loving son, John Bays, and his wife, Lisa Bays; her grandchildren, Jordan Bays and Logan Bays; her nephew, Todd Ownby, his daughter Kelly; and Kelly’s daughter Dahlia.

Marilyn will be remembered for her love for her family and the energy she brought into every room. She will be deeply missed.

A memorial service will be held at Thacker Brothers Funeral Home, 650 Valley St., Scottsville, VA 24590 on September 20, 2025, at 2:00 pm. Marilyn will be laid to rest alongside her late beloved brother Harold Ownby in a private service.
