Mark Ellison Dunn

Mark Ellison Dunn, 73, of Schuyler, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 31, 2025, at University of Virginia Medical Center.

Born in West Virginia, Mark was the son of the late Mark and Marie Dunn. He was an active member of St. Andrew’s Baptist Church in Dillwyn and a proud member of the Ruritan’s Cove Garden Club in North Garden. Mark retired from Northrop Grumman after more than 30 years of dedicated service, during which he made many lifelong friends.

Before his health began to decline, Mark enjoyed spending time on the golf course, woodworking in his shop, and lending a hand to anyone in need. He will be remembered for his kind heart, his sense of humor, and his unwavering willingness to help others.

In addition to his parents, Mark was preceded in death by his brother, Steven "Steve" Dunn and his brother-in-law, Oliver "Wayne" Powers.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Martha Dunn; his daughters, Catherine "Cathie" Dunn of Schuyler, and Debra "Debbie" Smith and her husband, Mark Smith, of Rupert, WV; his sisters, Marcettus Powers and her friend, Kenneth “Eugene” Varner of Crozet, Hettie “Sue” Spino and her husband, Samuel "Sam" Spino of Schuyler, and Nancy Dunn and her partner, Dwayne Grimmett of Rainelle, WV. He also leaves behind his cherished grandchildren, Cynthia "Cindy" Smith and Garrett Smith of Rupert, WV.

A Celebration of Mark's Life will be held from 1:00pm - 3:00pm on Saturday, September 13, 2025, at Thacker Brothers Funeral Home, 650 Valley St., Scottsville, VA 24590.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made in Mark’s honor to a charity of your choice.
