Mary Ethel Clements, 86, of Scottsville, VA, gained her wings on Friday, February 3, 2023 surrounded by her children and grandchildren at University of Virginia Medical Center.
Mary was born on Sunday, November 15, 1936, a daughter of the late Austin Meadows and Lurane (Breeden) Meadows.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Stewart Lee Clements; her brother, Malcom Meadows; her sister Flossie Clements.
Mary worked in housekeeping at the University of Virginia from 1976-1997, until retiring to take care of her husband of 67 years. Whether it was raising her children and grandchildren, working in the garden, canning in the backyard, or shopping for a bargain, Mary loved to keep busy. Above all, she loved everyone, especially her family. Mary was often referred to as stubborn and did everything her way. She was the rock of the family.
Mary is survived by her five children, Jimmy Clements, Mary Sue Clements, Roger Clements (Wilma), Shirley Proffitt (Wilson), and Mikel Clements (Lori); a sister, Helen Sprouse; her grandchildren, Amanda, Jim, Brian, Chris, Ashleigh, Skyler, and Kaylee; and a host of great-grandchildren, family, and friends who will miss her dearly. She will be especially missed by her beloved dog, Dixie. “Fly high, Mama. We love you.”
A private service for Mary will be held at a later date.
Family and friends are invited to share pictures and memories at thackerbrothers.com.
