Mary Comer Obituary

Mary Lourdes Comer (Marylou), 54, of Palmyra, Virginia, left this world with her husband at her side on December 20, 2024, in Charlottesville, Viriginia, after a year-long, valiant fight with cancer.

She was born on January 20, 1970, in Willcox, Arizona, a daughter of Martin and Lourdes Garcia.  She is preceded in death by her father, Martin.

Marylou was a light in the life of her many friends and family whom she loved.  She enjoyed cooking, hiking, taking care of her plants, and hosting family/friend get togethers.  She made all those around her happy with her bigger than life smile and humor. Marylou especially loved watching her daughter thrive in life, traveling with her girlfriends on yearly vacations and spending time with her triplet grandchildren. She built a beautiful life with her loving husband, Tom, with whom she spent 26 wonderful years where they embarked on many adventures.  Her children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews have fond memories of her taking care of them and making them feel special.  Marylou was truly the best mother, daughter, sister, wife, grandmother, aunt, co-worker, family member by marriage, and friend.

Marylou worked for the Federal Bureau of Prisons for 28 years where she rose up the ranks from a secretary to Associate Warden and along the way made life-long friends.  She was admired for her leadership skills and the ability to also have fun at work.

Marylou loved life and her absence in this world will be felt forever by all of those who knew and loved her.

Her survivors include her husband, Thomas J. Comer; daughter, Ryan Pollock-Comer (Derek) step-sons, Tommy Comer (Kara) and Frank Comer; step-daughter, Alexandra; grand-children, Georgia, Jolynne, and Mickey; mother, Lourdes Garcia; sisters, Patty Attebery (Mark), Maria Greene (Shon) and Eloisa Pannell (Kenny); brothers, Frank Garcia (Janice), Martin Garcia (Gloria) and Gerardo Garcia, and numerous nieces, nephews, and in-laws.

A private viewing will be held at Thacker Brothers Lake Monticello Funeral Home on December 23, 2024, and a Celebration of Life will be held in Arizona at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Fight Like a Girl Foundation at https://www.fightlikeagirlfoundation.org/.
