Mary Ann Hammond Ruggeri, 67, of Lake Monticello Virginia, passed away on Wednesday, August 19, 2020 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease.
She was born February 8,1953 in Brooklyn NY, daughter of the late John and Helen Hammond. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Beverly Winston.
Mary was raised in Brooklyn, NY and graduated from Catherine McAuley High School in 1971. She married Thomas Ruggeri, Sr. on December 28, 1973, in Hartford, CT. They were married for 46 years. The couple lived in Center Moriches, NY prior to moving to Lake Monticello in 1998. Mary worked for 20 years as a pharmacy technician at Sam’s Club in Charlottesville, VA. She retired in 2014.
Mary was known for being a lifelong Yankee fan. In her spare time, she volunteered at Caring for Creatures in Fluvanna County.
Mary is survived by her loving husband, Thomas; three children, Kerensa Shepherd, Joseph Ruggeri and his wife, Lauren, and Thomas Ruggeri Jr. and his wife, Renee; six grandchildren, Joseph Jr., Eli, Shawn, Tristan, Mason, and Julianna; brother, John Hammond and his wife, Camille; beloved dog, Milo; and many nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be conducted on Wednesday, August 26, 2020, at 11:00 am at Thacker Brothers Lake Monticello Funeral Home with the Reverend David Martin Ssentamu as Celebrant.
The family will receive friends from 7-9pm on Tuesday, August 25, 2020 at Thacker Brothers Lake Monticello Funeral Home.
