Maude Bryan Obituary

Maude Elizabeth (Johnson) Bryan, of Scottsville, passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday, August 5, 2021.

Maude was born in Fluvanna County to the late John and Mary Jane (Carroll) Johnson. She was a member of Antioch Baptist Church in Scottsville and worked as a school bus driver for Fluvanna County Public Schools for over 35 years. At the time of her retirement, she had driven several generations of children, and it gave her great pleasure to keep in touch with them over the years. Maude was an excellent cook and enjoyed preparing food for her family and friends. Her corn pudding was a greatly anticipated treat at family gatherings.

In addition to her parents, Maude was preceded in death by her husband, William “Bill” Bryan; six brothers: Levi, Henry, George, Dick, Charlie, and David Johnson; and a sister, Dorothy Ann McBee.

Maude is survived by her three children: Jean Bryan (Bob Sullivan), Cheryl Bryan, and William “Chip” Bryan (Peggy); a sister, Pauline Crues; a special sister-in-law, Peggy Johnson, and a number of nieces and nephews.

A private graveside service will be held at Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery.

While there will not be a formal viewing or visitation at the funeral home, family and friends may come by Thacker Brothers Funeral Home in Scottsville on Friday, August 13, 2021 from 9 AM until 2 PM to sign the register book and pay their respects. A Celebration of Life will be planned for later in the year.

Maude’s family wishes to extend a sincere thank you to Dr. Randolph Lanford for providing compassionate care and friendship for over 40 years and to the caring doctors and staff at University of Virginia Hospital, with a special thank you to Dr. Curtis Argo.
