Millard Aubrey Payne, 77, of Charlottesville, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 14, 2022, at the University of Virginia Medical Center, after a long stay at the Cedar Nursing Home in Charlottesville.
He was born on July 18, 1944, to the late Millard and Corrine (Garland) Payne in Albemarle County.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Payne was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Violet Marie (Harris) Payne; and his son, Millard Payne Jr, III.
He was baptized at and was a member of Spring Hill Baptist Church in Albemarle, Virginia. Mr. Payne attended J. P. Burley High School and worked at Allied Concrete for many years until he retired and then went on to be a self-employed Trucker. He enjoyed fishing, watching race car driving, and spending time with his family and friends, who he loved dearly. To know Millard, was to love Millard.
Survivors include his daughter, Jacqueline Payne-Rush and husband, William Rush of Esmont; four grandchildren, Torrey Payne (Crystal) of Arizona, Antwon Walker of West Virginia, and Peyton and Austin Lockett, both of Charlottesville; two great grandchildren, Eden Payne and Ezio N. Walker; two sisters, Darlene Cabell and Sharlene Chambliss, both of Charlottesville; along with a host of nieces and nephews, and several extended family members and friends.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, April 19, 2022, at 12:00 PM at Thacker Brothers Scottsville Funeral Home. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, at 11:00 AM, Pastor Thomas M. Smith will officiate the service.
The family would like to send a special thank you to the amazing staff at The University of Virginia ICU team, who provided exceptional care for Mr. Payne.
