Myrtle Goolsby Wyland, 97, of Schuyler passed away on May 21, 2025, at home with her loving family faithfully by her side.

Myrtle was native to Virginia. Born on May 18, 1928, to the late Thomas and Anna Lee (Gunter) Goolsby.

In addition to her parents, Myrtle was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert "Jim" L. Wyland, their daughter, Juanita Herndon, her brother, Thomas Dewey Goolsby and her special friend, Sylvia Johnson.

Myrtle was an amazing wife, mother, sister, and friend. She was known for loving others and showed this love through her delicious cooking. Affectionately, her late husband, Jim, planted her a lavender rose bush outside of their home in an expression of his love and admiration for her.

When Myrtle wasn’t showering her family with her love; she worked at State Farm Insurance Company and retired after many years of devoted service.

She also was known in her community for her expertise in playing the piano. She volunteered much time to her local churches by providing them with music education and also shared the gift of her talent with them. She was highly sought after to play the piano at special events and Sunday services.

Myrtle was a dedicated lifelong member of the Methodist Church.

She will be lovingly remembered for her warm and authentic smile and personality. She will be missed tremendously by her family and friends. To be loved by her was a gift.

Myrtle is survived by her four devoted sons, James L. Wyland (Donna), Donald L. Wyland (Karen), Herbert J. Wyland (Bryce), and Andy C. Wyland (Lynnley). She had eight grandchildren; Susan, Billy, Travis, Blake, Sarah, Josh, Brittney, and Megan; numerous great grandchildren. Myrtle is also survived by her sisters VonCeil White and Wyonna Carroll; her sisters-in-law, Anne Pugh (Eddie) and Barbara Wyland. Additionally, she was survived by her special friends, Alice Vest and Cindy Davis.

The family will lay Myrtle to rest beside her husband in a private ceremony at Alberene Cemetery in Esmont, Virginia.
