Nancy Sylve Nelson, 71, of Lake Monticello, VA died on Sunday, August 28, 2022 in Charlottesville, with her daughter Kelly Nelson Walding by her side while listening to “Walking to New Orleans”.
She was born on October 14, 1950 on a Saturday in New Orleans, LA, a daughter of the late Lucian and Doris (Treadway) Sylve.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William John Nelson; a son, Matthew John Nelson; her sister Peggy Sylve Bilbrey, and her brother Paul Anthony Sylve, Sr. She is survived by her daughter Kelly Nelson Walding, her son-in law Joel Rob Walding, granddaughters Savannah Taylor Walding and Avery Elizabeth Walding, her brothers, Silas Sylve, James Sylve, and Nathan Sylve, along with her sisters Carmalita Sylve and Sally Sylve. She is survived by her numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, her Team Walding family, and many friends.
Anywhere Nancy went she always ran into a friend and if she didn’t, she made a friend. She always called you on your birthday, anniversary, or any day that was special to you. She was the first to arrive and the last to leave any event. She enjoyed singing loud, listening to country music, and holding her grandbabies. If she didn’t enjoy something, then she would let you know. She loved all her church families - Suburban Baptist Church in New Orleans, The MET Church in Houston, and Effort Baptist Church in Palmyra.
A memorial service will be conducted at 11am on Saturday, September 3, 2022 at Effort Baptist Church by Pastor Jason Bird. The family will receive friends following the service.
Memorial contributions may be sent to Effort Baptist Church in Palmyra, VA. In lieu of donations, please plant a tree or flowers in her name.
Thacker Brothers Lake Monticello Funeral Home is handling the arrangements. Family and friends may share memories and photos at www.thackerbrothers.com.
