Penny Diane (Spencer) Maupin, 64, of Esmont, passed away on September 28, 2023, while surrounded by her family.
Penny was born on November 17, 1958, in Albemarle County, Virginia, a daughter of the late Glen R. and Frances (Freeman) Spencer. After graduating from Albemarle High School, Penny spent most of her career working for Albemarle County Public Schools as a teacher’s aide—serving as a companion for special education students. Following her many years in education, Penny transitioned to estate management, where she served as house manager, housekeeper, and nanny to countless families in the area.
Above all else, Penny was known for her heart and her ability to bring people together. She enjoyed planning family get togethers, complete with activities for the kids and enough food to feed our entire town. Those that knew her best, know how much Penny enjoyed her summers. She frequented the county lakes and loved nothing more than spending time at the beach. She was the very definition of love, showing her love for others by simply being there and giving them her time. Her grandchildren occupied so much of her heart, as she would stop at nothing to show them how much they were loved.
In addition to her parents, Penny had a heavenly reunion with her husband, Robert Maupin, and their two dogs, Carter and Allie, as well as a special nephew, Justin Maupin.
Those left behind to carry on her love are numerous and include two daughters, Casey Byars and husband, Corey of Waynesboro, and Tory Maupin-Siler and husband, Craig Siler of Esmont. She will be greatly missed by four adoring grandchildren, Blake Franklin Tracy, Nevaeh Anne Tracy, Robert Samuel Siler, and Charlotte “Charli” Rose Siler. She is also survived by three brothers, Robert Spencer and wife, Ginger; Jessie Spencer and wife, Becky, and Neil Spencer; her mother-in-law, Daisy Maupin; her brother-in-law, Cecil Maupin and wife, Patty; her “chosen” sister, Lorrie Sipe and husband, Mike; as well as numerous extended family members and friends.
A graveside service for family and friends will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Saturday, October 7, 2023 at Alberene Church Cemetery in North Garden. Sandy Fewell will be officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Hospice of the Piedmont to show gratitude for their compassionate care during Penny’s final months.
Thacker Brothers Scottsville Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
