Robert Junior Jones, 81, of Waynesboro, died on Monday, September 29, 2025, at Augusta Health.
He was born on April 19, 1944, in Karlen, KY, a son of the late Robert and Ellie Kelly Jones. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Fred Jones; three sisters, Bertha Bailey, Grace Willis, and Doris Breeden; and a brother-in-law, Frankie Fisher.
Robert was a dedicated handyman and plumber, running his own business for many years. He also worked at Johnson and Taylor Plumbing & Heating. A true outdoorsman, he loved hunting and fishing and found great joy in gardening—especially growing tomatoes. He was also a member of the Waynesboro Moose Lodge.
He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Elizabeth “Betty” Jones; one sister, Katherine Fisher of Stuarts Draft, VA, and two nephews, Andy & Robbie Fisher; three children, Mellisa Fretwell (Steve) of Crimora, VA, Donna Turner (Randy) of Greenville, VA, and Robert Jones (Kerri) of Milam, WV; ten grandchildren: Stephanie (Ian) Hensley, Ashley, and Steven Fretwell, Garland (Heather) Branch, Adrienne (Eric) Underwood, Kristen (Kevin) Jamerson, Timothy (Ashley) Jones, Sierra (Jason), Shelby (Charles), and Tyler (Megan); 16 great-grandchildren; two stepchildren, Denise Weaver (Richard) of Waynesboro, VA, and Dennis Lambert (Sharon); and three step-grandchildren, Victoria, Douglas, and Daniel Lambert.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 2, 2025, at Scottsville Cemetery by Pastor Matthew Gowin. Pallbearers will be Garland Branch, Timothy Jones, Steven Fretwell Jr., Tyler Jones, Kevin Jamerson, and Jason Truslow.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 – 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 1, 2025, at Thacker Brothers Scottsville Funeral Home.
