Rev. Robert Roosevelt Parson, 89, of Scottsville, departed this life on Sunday, June 19, 2022—Father’s Day.
He was an excellent father, husband, and business owner. Born December 15, 1932, in Buckingham County, to the late Mattie (Patterson) Parson and Willie Oscar Parson.
Rev. Parson graduated in 1951 from Buckingham Training School in Dillwyn. Afterward, he enlisted in the Air Force. During his military service, he accepted Jesus as Lord of his life. Later he was called to ministry. He received his ministry training from Washington Bible College. He founded Community Baptist Church in 1972. He was quietly instrumental in the fight for civil rights in Buckingham County schools.
He was preceded in death by his beloved first wife of 51 years, Lular Moore Parson; his second wife of 6 years, Joy Renée Russell Parson; seven brothers and sisters and their spouses, Emma (Frank) Boddie, William (Gwen Gray), Clarence (Natalie), Bernard (Vernell), Roland (Lorice) and Walter (Jackie).
Left behind to cherish his memory are his four daughters, Melody Day (Philip) of Charlottesville, VA, Monica Parson of Lynchburg, VA, Merisa Davis (Marc) of Lilburn, GA and Martika Gartman, (Randy) of Westmont, Illinois; one son, Robert Mark Parson (Rhonda) of Richmond, VA; two grandchildren, Charissa Joy Davis and Marc Isaac Davis; a sister, Dora Thomas (Ernest) of Washington, DC; a brother in-law, Lawrence Russell (Jean); along with a host of nieces, nephews, and dear friends—especially Evelyn and Willis Jones of Keene, Virginia.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, June 25 th from 12:30 to 1:45PM at the Thacker Brothers Funeral Home in Scottsville, with funeral services following at 2PM. Interment will be at Mount Pleasant Baptist Church, 6456 Esmont Rd in Keene VA.
