Robert Daniel Smith

Robert Daniel Smith, 64, of Schuyler, passed away on June 27, 2023, at University of Virginia Hospital.

He was born on February 15, 1959, in Charlottesville, a son of the late Alvin Daniel and Lila (Moyer) Smith.

In addition to his parents, Robert is preceded in death by two brothers, Charles Smith, and Billie Smith; and a special friend, Robert Wayne Sprouse.

Robert worked as a mechanic for 45 years. He was employed at Gary Greenbrier Service for 17 years before reluctantly retiring due to health issues. Robert had a passion for cars and drag racing. If he wasn’t working in a garage with his tools, then you could find him watching the drag races at Sumerduck Dragway or Eastside Speedway.

Robert was known as hardworking, steadfast, and proactive. He knew how to fix almost everything. However, after his health declined, he became eager to teach those around him how to fix things in his place. A man with a hard exterior but a big heart. He had a soft spot for his two grandchildren, whom he adored.

Robert is survived by two sons, Brian Daniel Smith, and Hank Logan Smith (Megan) ; two grandchildren Aubrie Smith and Eli Smith; three sisters, Terry Anderson; Deborah Smith, and Naomi Jean Johnson; and two special friends, Quintin Phillips and Jerry Blair.

The family would like to thank Jerry Blair for being Robert’s dedicated caregiver for the past decade.

A graveside service will be conducted at 11 AM on Saturday, July 1, 2023, at Sharon Baptist Church Cemetery 8410 Chestnut Grove Road, Esmont, VA, 22969 by Pastor Robert Price.

The family will receive friends from 6 – 8 PM on Friday, June 30, 2023, at Thacker Brothers Scottsville Funeral Home.
