Rodney Lewis Shumaker, 71, of Scottsville, passed away on Wednesday, August 3, 2022, at the University of Virginia Medical Center in Charlottesville.
He was born on September 25, 1950, a son of the late Albert Lewis and Ruth (McGuire) Shumaker.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by seven uncles, Russell, John, Paul, Bennie, David Lee, Jimmie, and Ralph McGuire; and five aunts, Evelyn Plum, Katherine Heeter, Ellen Johnson, Margaret Duncan and Shirley Hughes; along with a brother in-law, David Miller.
Rodney retired from Icon Business Solution Company, where he worked as a service technician for many years, servicing copy machines and typewriters. He enjoyed hunting and fishing with his brother, Charles, when he was able. He had a strong passion for cars, he could take anything apart and put it right back together. He enjoyed collecting guns and loved his tools! He was a loving father, husband and friend who will be missed dearly by all that knew him.
Survivors include his beloved wife of 50 plus years, Julie (Miller) Shumaker of Scottsville; his one and only son, Brian Clay of Charlottesville; a sister, Janet Lester of Charlottesville; a brother, Charles Shumaker of Scottsville; an aunt, Ruby Browning of Charlottesville; along with a host of extended family members and friends who will truly miss him.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM, on Thursday, August 11, 2022, at Thacker Brothers Funeral Home with Pastor Randy Golladay officiating. Interment will follow at Alberene Cemetery.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, August 10, 2022, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Rodney’s name may be made to a charity of choice.
