Russell Randolph Obituary

Russell Charles Randolph, 82, of Schuyler, VA entered into eternal rest on Sunday, January 10, 2021 at his home. He was born on August 10, 1938 in Hinton, WV, to the late Junius and Dorothy Randolph. He was predeceased by his maternal grandparents, Marcellus and Eva Carrington; brothers, Junius Randolph, Jr. and John Marcellus Randolph; four sisters, Edith Turner, Eva Molly, Delores May, and Barbara Jean Randolph; and sister in-law, Helen Randolph.  

Russell is survived by his wife of 48 years, Evelyn Randolph; son, Lawrence Randolph (Lucille); daughter, Stephanie Coleman (Cornelius); granddaughter, Amina Coleman; one brother, Ernest Randolph; three sisters, Jackie Randolph, Linda Randolph-Fuller (Charles), and Brenda Randolph; nieces that he helped raise as they were his own daughters, Denise Turner-Jones (Terry), Jonnie Turner, Sandra Turner, Tracey Randolph-Rush (Jerome), Stacey Randolph, and Kelly Randolph; brother in-laws, Fletcher Walker (Teresa), David Walker, Jr., and Michael Walker; and a host of great-nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.  

Russell is a veteran of the United States Army and was honorably discharged in 1967. Russell was the owner and operator of Randolph’s General Merchandise in Schuyler, VA alongside his wife, Evelyn for 26 years. He made countess memories at Randolph’s Store having worked there since he was 16 years old. He was well known throughout the Schuyler community for his generosity and kind heart.  

Russell was a servant for the Lord and a faithful member and deacon of the St. Joy Baptist Church in Schuyler. In church services Russell could often be heard saying a heartfelt prayer and a joke that brought laughter to the congregation.  

Russell was a man of many talents. He was willing to tackle any job, building, landscaping, and painting. He was an avid sports fan, especially UVA basketball and football, Washington Football, and the Los Angeles Dodgers.  

Russell was grateful for the loving and patient care provided to him by his wife, Evelyn, sister, Brenda, and children, Lawrence and Stephanie.  

Due to Covid-19 regulations, there will be no public visitation, family and friends may come by the funeral home on Thursday, January 14, 2021 from 9 a.m. until 6 p.m. at Thacker Brothers Funeral Home, 650 Valley Street, Scottsville, VA 24590 to view and pay their respects.

 A graveside services will be held on Friday, January 15, 2021 at 11 a.m. at the St. Joy Baptist Church, 5567 Glade Road, Schuyler, VA 22926 with Rev. Ernie Morse, eulogist. Those wishing to attend are asked to please wear a facial mask and practice social distancing.
