Sanders Preston (John/Johnny) Lloyd, Jr., 80, of Scottsville, passed away on December 29, 2022 after a long battle with Dementia and Kidney Disease.
He was born on Saturday, January 1, 1942 to the late Sanders Preston (Lincoln/Shorty) and Margaret Virginia (Hogue) Lloyd.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings Peggy Ann, Ernestine, Margaret Kidd, and Mary Harlow. John was also preceded in death by the love of his life, Linda (Shores) Lloyd. He and Linda also had a great-granddaughter, Rosalyn Grace, that met him as he entered Heaven’s Gates.
John is survived by his two daughters, Kelly Kidd-Wheaton, and her husband Charles (Chucky), and Joni Lloyd. He also had his 5 grand babies that were his world: Mackenzie Watson, and her fiance, Mike, Ryan Kidd, Carly Biskup, Ryleigh Kidd, and Kylie Biskup. He also had his 3 great-grandchildren by Mike and Mackenzie: Lily, Ivy, and Willow. Everyone knows that the grandkids were his weakness because they all had him wrapped around his finger.
Shirley Lloyd of Camp Hill, PA is his last surviving sibling. However, he has numerous nieces, nephews, and in-laws that meant the world to him. In particular, his nephew, Roger Kidd and his wife Cathy, held a special place in John’s heart as they grew up together, more like brothers instead of uncle and nephew.
There were some very specific family and friends that helped after John got down and was unable to do things like he used to, and they need to be mentioned: His brother-in-law, Roy E Shores, and his girlfriend, Muriel Wright, stopped by weekly to check on him and the girls. Mary and CW Payne, his sister- and brother-in-law, always lent a hand and he enjoyed his visits with his “favorite sister-in-law” as she would tease. Kyle and Darlene Allen and the whole Allen Crew have been very helpful in any and every way. They have been lifelong friends to John and Linda and grown into our family as well. Many thanks must be given to his former son-in-law, Elliott Biskup, for all the kind care he helped give. To his caregivers, Charity Beach and Jalynn Reeser, we are forever grateful. And most recently, to Kevin Moore, he enjoyed all the talks and looked forward to getting the dogs back running in the woods. The time you all gave to him means so much more than you will ever know.
There were also a couple of family friends and “adopted children” that meant the world to John. He took them hunting, worked with them, and helped them in their time of need, treating them as if they were his own children. And our family will always remember these “family members.”
John worked for State Farm Insurance for almost 46 years. He retired on a Friday and went to work the following Monday because he didn’t know how to sit still. However, regardless of the beginning stages of his deteriorating mind, when Linda got sick, he was there to be her primary caregiver. This was just like John and his giving nature to give anyone who needed it the shirt off his back.
He was an avid hunter, loved to fish, but above all, he loved his family, friends, and loved helping others. He helped others first even if it meant he did without. He volunteered with the Scottsville Volunteer Fire Department where he became a lifetime member.
We ask that in lieu of flowers that you make any donations to the Scottsville Volunteer Fire Department, the Nelson County High School FFA as he believed in the future of farming, or the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries. In reality any donation to anywhere will do, just do so with a giving heart.
A Memorial Service will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, January 7, 2023, at Wesley’s Chapel United Methodist Church. Following the service there will be a fellowship gathering at the Scottsville Volunteer Fire Department.
The family will receive friends from 6 pm to 8 pm on Friday, January 6, 2023, at Thacker Brothers Scottsville Funeral Home.
Family and friends are invited to share photos and memories at thackerbrothers.com.
