Sgt. William James Moon, US Army Ret.

William James Moon, 86, of Green Bay, passed away on Wednesday, July 16, 2025, at his home with his loving family by his side.

Born in Esmont, Virginia on February 4, 1939, to the late Samuel Cornelius Moon and Bessie Dora Moon. 

William dedicated his life to the United States Army and retired after more than 20 years of service. 

After his retirement he became a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW Post #7819) and the Disabled Army Veterans (DAV).

In addition to his parents, William was preceded in death by two brother, five sisters, his son, Samuel Cornelius Moon and his daughter, Sherry Lyn Moon. 

William leaves behind his son, William J. Moon, Jr.; daughters, Deborah Ann Moon, Tammy Sue Moon and Misty Dawn Moon; his eleven grandchildren, his 7 great grandchildren; and his sister, Frances Maxine Sipe.

The family will receive friends from 1:00pm to 2:00pm on Monday, July 21, 2025, at Thacker Brothers Funeral Home, 650 Valley St. Scottsville, VA 24590. A funeral service will be held at 2:00pm with Lindsay Ellis presiding. Interment will follow at Scottsville Cemetery.
