Sherman Pernell Ayers was born June 22, 1956 in Buckingham County, Virginia to the late Walter and Anna Dean Ayers. He departed this life on March 31, 2021. He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Anna Dean Ayers; brother, Walter Clement Ayers; sisters Marshell Ayers-Richards and Edith Marie Ayers Chambers.
Sherman joined Spreading Oak Baptist Church of Arvonia, Virginia at an early age. He was an active and faithful member in the Men’s Choir. He received his education through Buckingham County Public Schools. He was employed by Richmond Automotive Ford for 10 years, the Omni Hotel for 5 years, and the JAG School for 14 years.
Sherman leaves to cherish his memories: his loving wife, Elizabeth (Ellen) Ayers; a daughter, Vynedra Brock of Charlottesville, VA; a son, Kelsey Ayers (Tondra) of Barboursville, VA; five grandchildren: Xavier Cox, Deja Hughston, Keenan Brock, Camryn Ayers, and Kendall Ayers; two great-granddaughters: Amira Cox and Zaymani Hughes; one brother, Percy Ayers (Annie) of Arvonia, VA; four sisters: Barbara Ann Stanton of Dillwyn, VA, Lois Stanton of Dillwyn, VA, Rachel Herndon (Kenneth) of Chesterfield, VA, and Daisy Hayden of Dillwyn, VA; three brothers-in-law: Ray Brock (Antoinette) of Fredericksburg, VA, Clarence Massie, Jr. (Dionysia) of Atlanta, GA, and Henry Massie of Charlottesville, VA; two sisters-in-law: Maggie Barnes (Darryl) of Charlottesville, VA and Stella Massie of Atlanta, GA; a special friend, Dave Smith; a special nephew, Rolando Richards and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Sherman was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend and he will be greatly missed by all. We loved him, but God loved him best.
