Sylvia Anne (Bobbitt) Ardinger, 87, formerly of Palmyra, passed away on Saturday, November 1, 2025, in Charlottesville, Virginia.
She was born on August 8, 1938, in Gaffney, SC, a daughter of the late Thomas Fleming and Iola (Taylor) Bobbitt. She was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Franklin Edward Ardinger, and her brothers, Kenneth and Robert Bobbitt.
Sylvia is survived by her two sons, Kevin Fleming Ardinger and Franklin Keith Ardinger (Melinda); her brother, Mike Bobbitt; four grandchildren, Deren Ardinger, Stephanie Sheetz, Mitchell Ardinger (Lexi), and Mackenzie Ardinger (Ethan); and three great-grandchildren, Jackson, Tenley, and Frankie.
Sylvia was a 1956 graduate of Falls Church High School. She began her career as an account executive for C&P, then worked for the Fairfax County Police Department as a crossing guard, and later retired as a manager for AT&T.
Known affectionately as Meema to her beloved grandchildren and Ping to her friends and family, Sylvia was a charismatic mother, grandmother, and friend whose vibrant spirit and warm presence touched everyone she knew. She cherished time with her family and friends, enjoying outdoor activities such as attending sporting events for her sons and grandchildren, camping, boating, trips to the beach, shopping, baking, and sewing.
In the early 1990s, Sylvia and Frank retired in Palmyra, Virginia, on the beautiful Lake Monticello. Their home was a frequent gathering place for family and friends, filled with never-ending laughter, love, tasty food, and a large collection of frog figurines.
Sylvia was a wonderful woman who will be deeply missed.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, November 21st, at Thacker Brothers Lake Monticello Funeral Home. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
