Teresa Alene Howdyshell, 64, died on Thursday, May 28, 2026, at Augusta Health in Fishersville.
She was born on May 24, 1962, in Staunton, a daughter of Nancy Gay (Drumheller) Howdyshell and the late Donald Lee Howdyshell.
Following her graduation from Fort Defiance High School, Teresa began working at King’s Daughters’ Hospital and attending nursing school at Blue Ridge Community College. At the age of twenty, she was involved in a near-fatal automobile accident that resulted in many life-long health challenges. Teresa enjoyed spending time with family and friends, taking rides through the countryside, caring for animals and volunteering at the Wildlife Center of Virginia.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by two brothers, Dustin L. Howdyshell and his wife, Marleen, of Verona, and Bradley N. Howdyshell and his wife, Yvonne, of Staunton; two nephews and a niece, Joshua D. Howdyshell (Stephanie) of Colorado, Jessa L. Howdyshell of Churchville, and Jaylen A. Brown (Kayla) of Staunton; a special friend and neighbor, Jim Sumner; and her toy poodle, Raggie.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, June 1, 2026, at Shenandoah Baptist Church Cemetery in Verona, with Pastor Nathan Lipscomb officiating.
The family will receive friends from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 31, 2026, at the home of Bradley and Yvonne, 1417 N. Augusta St., Staunton.
A heartfelt thanks is extended to Dr. Christopher Heck and the staff of Hospice of the Shenandoah for the compassionate care and kindness shown to Teresa and her family over the past two months.
