Thomas Allen “Sonny” Goode, 84, of Charlottesville passed away on Friday November 29, 2024. Sonny was born on December 14, 1939 in Keene, Virginia, and was the eldest son of George Allen, and Vada Blevins Goode. Sonny was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Randolph Vincent “Skip” Goode. Sonny was married to Ann Goodwin Goode for 36 wonderful years, who preceded him in death in 2000.
He graduated from Scottsville High School, joined the Army National Guard in 1963, and served until honorably discharged in 1969.
For the entirety of his working life, Sonny was the Stud Farm Manager at Nydrie Farms, a Thoroughbred Training Facility in Esmont, Virginia. He oversaw the nurturing and training of yearling horses. In addition to the myriad of farm tasks, Sonny enjoyed mentoring young veterinarian students and others preparing for the horse racing industry. He was a passionate outdoorsman who appreciated working close to nature.
Sonny was an avid reader and made many trips to the local libraries, often getting books as they came in the door. As an active member of the Rivanna Rifle and Pistol Club, he spent many days busting clay pigeons and ensuring member safety.
Survivors include a son, Allen Ritchey Goode, and his wife Tina Seaman Goode of Charlottesville; two grandchildren, Christopher Goode of Williamsburg, and Thomas Allen of Charlottesville.
A graveside service will be held at Scottsville Cemetery at 10:30am on Thursday, December 5. A time of fellowship will be held thereafter at the Tri-County Riding Club, 1619 Riding Club Road, Keene.
