William Rush, 95, of Esmont, departed this life on Wednesday, January 4, 2023 at the University of Virginia Hospital in Charlottesville.
He was born on July 7, 1927, a son of the late James Neverson and Roberta (Brooks) Rush.
In addition to his parents, William was preceded in death by four brothers: John, Douglas, James, and Robert Rush; five sisters: Sarah Scott, Louise Swain, Daisy Gray, Florence Dillard, and Catherine Dillard; first wife, Agnes Louise Rush; children, James McKinley and John “Shorty” Rush; a grandchild, John Simpson; great-grandchild Quintus Brooks.
William was a dedicated member and deacon at Chestnut Grove Baptist Church in Esmont and a strong believer in the Lord. He was a hard worker and was employed with VDOT for 43 years. William loved to travel, being outdoors, eating out at restaurants, and living life to the fullest. He spent much of his time giving loving guidance to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was very influential in the lives of two of his devoted grandsons, Andre Thomas and William Bill Anderson. The family would like to extend a special thanks to William’s granddaughter-in-law, Lawanda Thomas, for her love and commitment in caring for him.
He is survived by his wife, Jacqueline Payne-Rush; a brother, Walker Rush; a sister-in-law Birdean Rush; six children Patricia Brooks (Larry), William Rush (Patricia), Philistine Davis, Geneva Rush, Pearl Rush, and Patrick Rush; a stepchild, Torrey Payne (Crystal); twenty-two grandchildren; and a host of great-grandchildren, family and friends that will miss him dearly.
Thacker Brothers Funeral Home in Scottsville is handling the arrangements. A home-going service at Chestnut Grove Baptist Church in Esmont will be conducted at 12:00pm on Saturday, January 14, 2023.
