William Ray Kidd, 94, of Scottsville, died peacefully on November 16, 2021 at his home.
He was born on January 2, 1927, in Albemarle County, a son of the late Allan William and Jessie Patrick (Pollard) Kidd.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, William Kidd; his first wife of 65 years, Mary Elizabeth (Stargell) Kidd; brothers Andrew, Jack, Joe Kidd, and sister, Minnie Haga.
Ray served as a Radio Operator in the US Navy for two years and was self-employed as a truck driver, farmer, and worked a number of years for VEPCO and the UVA Research Facility. He was a member of the Scottsville and Alberene Baptist Churches and the Alberene Masonic Lodge for over 60 years.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Byars (Spencer) Kidd; brother, Doug Kidd; a son, Charles Kidd; a daughter, Donna Schroeder (Edwin); step-children, Pat Reynolds (Grover), Gene Spencer (Brenda), and Dennis Spencer (Pat); two daughters-in-law, Cindy Kidd and Nancy Kidd; a granddaughter, Kira Elizabeth Schroeder; six grandsons, A. Scott Kidd (Mandie), M. Jared Kidd (Amber), Jesse R. Kidd (Catherine), and Adam C. Schroeder, Staff Sgt., 82nd Airborne Division William T. Kidd, and Pedro G. A. Virella and Brittany Rugo; six great-grandsons and five great-granddaughters; and a number of nieces, nephews, and extended family.
A funeral service will be conducted at 10:00 AM on Saturday, November 20, 2021 at Thacker Brothers Scottsville Funeral Home by Pastor Harlin Sykes. Interment will follow in the Scottsville Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 PM on Friday, November 19, 2021 at the funeral home.
